Rise and shine! It’s a new day & a new week!
I was talking this morning to my best friend and while we were laughing about random things that happened during the weekend, we also touched a more sensitive topic: superficiality vs. professionalism. You see, we both have been totally disappointed by people in our professional lives, who couldn’t maintain their given word.
Maybe I’m old-fashioned, but I truly, hugely dislike to be in a situation with a business partner who will not deliver what he promised. I hate when people are superficial, when they postpone, delay, cancel or do a sloppy job just to get it done.
I truly believe we are all grown-ups here and I expect all of us to act like the professionals we claim to be.
For me, a handshake and a given word is worth a contract, so while I do my part, I expect my partner to do the same.
Well, it seems that not all of us have the same moral construction or professional conscience. While some of us are hard-working, others are successfully slaking.
It’s really frustrating to work with or to even meet such people. So, what to do about it?
First, I’ll let them know how I feel. I will cancel contracts if I have to. I will find someone else. I’ll use all my diplomacy, but I won’t shrug my shoulders or look the other way.
What would this world be, if all of us would decide one day to work just half? Or to work just sloppy, mediocre and careless? What if a doctor decides one day to perform an operation not with professionalism, but with superficiality? What if a fireman decides to do a sloppy job just because he’s in a bad mood? What would our world be like?
Second, I’ll keep on doing my job as best as I can. Every single day. Because I still believe in the power of example and I hope that professionalism and morality are contagious . I advise you to do the same.
Do the best you can.
Not just in your professional life, but in your private too.
Be a man of honor.
Respect your given word, your profession and your identity.
Act like a pro, do your job and strive to be better than you were yesterday.
We all need more of that. We need people around us who dedicate themselves to their profession, with passion, honesty, commitment and hard work.
We need Nobel winners. And we need professionals in all domains.
So, do the best you can. Today. And do it also tomorrow. And the day after tomorrow.
It makes a world of difference!
Sending positive vibes your way,
